The below list contains math instructional websites that are high
quality and provide students with a variety of options for learning and
practicing science.
The Science Kids website has a bit of something for everyone. There are games, facts, experiments, projects, and videos. The website is easy to use and also have resources for parents and teachers. This website is constructivist. It doesn't really contain any drill-n-practice type activities except in a few of the games. One thing I would like to see changed about this website is how you can search it. I wish it had the option to filter by grade.
Jefferson Lab is a great website for kids and adults alike. There are instructional games, simulations, drill-n-practice, and tutorials. It is interesting, well organized, and full of variety. It contains a section with video links, one with science project ideas, and sections for teachers and parents. This site even had virtual field trips!!
Sci4Kids is a site hosted by the United States Department of Agricultural. It incorporates agriculture and science with a variety of slideshows, pictures, and "spotlights." It isn't a game site like most educational sites aimed at kids. It provides them with information through PowerPoint like slideshows. All of the information on this site is related to Agriculture. NOTE: While I really like this site it seems to have been abandoned. The posts are a few years old.
Kids.gov is a really great resource for more than just science but I really liked it because it has a variety of science resources. Many of the resources are links to other sites either within other government based sites or other educational sites. There are videos, simulations, drill-n-practice, instructional and (some) problem solving activities on this site. I especially liked the information provided about potential career opportunities within the science field.
Easy Science for Kids is almost entirely an instructional site. The amount of information on this site is truly impressive. There is something for everyone - from reptiles to plants to planets. Kids can learn about almost anything in our natural world. The site itself is well organized and visually pleasing. It just feels exciting to learn about science on this site (yes, I know that is cheesy!).
NOTE: Reflection on website research is on my Mathematics Instructional Software page.
